Benefits of Membership

Why Join the CBW? Well, here are a few reasons you might consider:

1. Design and placement of your Personal Web Page on the CBW Website (a $75 value free of charge). Upon acceptance to the club, Individuals are entitled to their own web page to market their services, sell their books or sell themselves and their writing-related products to agents, publishers and other content-providing enterprises such as area magazines and newspapers. The web page remains on the site as long as the individual maintains his or her membership. The CBW website link is listed by area libraries and receives an average of 400 visitors each month, which makes it a significant venue for its members. Click here for Details as to how to get your Web Page - it isn't automatic.

2. Discounts & Priority reservation for CBW-sponsored Events, workshops and some Member Services. CBW sponsors recurrent workshops and special events with limited enrollment. Members get priority for seats available and attend free or at a sharp discount where fees are involved. In addition, many members offer their expert services at a discount to fellow members (for details, see Members Offering Services.)

3. Free Subscription to The CBW Newsletter. The CBW publishes a print newsletter five times a year which publicizes the writing-related achievements of club members among other newsy items of interest to writers. A great way to keep abreast of things. Author members with a new book may arrange to include in the Newsletter a one page flyer insert, mailed for free.

4. Member-Only Promotions: CBW Monday - monthly talk radio segment on XTRA 99.1FM available to published authors (8-20 minute interviews with Neal Steele); Click here for details. Free placement of the recorded interview on the CBW Website and/or on your personal web page.

5. Listing on the CBW Website to market your Books or Writing-related Services. The website Listing also provides links to where your books or services can be purchased, your Member Web page or your own website if you have one.

6. Opportunities for Book Signings/sale of books at CBW-sponsored Writers Expos, meetings and other Special events. While open to the public and all area writers and publishers, only CBW members are given free space to sell/sign/showcase their books.

7. Open Invitation to participate in all club functions, including critique groups, Open Mike meetings and fellowship events. Networking is at the heart of a writer's success. Click here for more on our on-going groups. Also available are narrow-interest Virtual Critique groups across the CBW membership as well as opportunities for collaborative writing projects.

8. Eligibility to participate in the annual CBW All Stars Writing Competition. Each Fall, The CBW sponsors a competition at which members read their own works to other members and guests. Cash prizes are given and fellowship abounds. Click here for photos and details.

9. Networking. The CBW currently has 85 members with interests spanning fiction, nonfiction, poetry, children's books and journalism. As a Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club, We expect this number to grow in 2008 and beyond as the CBW's outreach program brings the benefits of membership closer to where members live. Networking opportunities will multiply as the number of members grows and, as a member, you get an annual member roster and access to the larger community that makes up the Virginia Writers Club. If CBW doesn't offer what you need, such as a local critique group, speak up and we'll help you create and publicize one.
