WRITER'S CRITIQUE GROUPS

"Books aren't written - they're rewritten. Including your own. It is one of the hardest things to accept, especially after the seventh rewrite hasn't quite done it." - Michael Crichton

WANT TO TEST DRIVE YOUR WORK BEFORE A LIVE AUDIENCE? WANT TO MEET OTHER WRITERS OR HEAR THEIR WORKS READ? THEN WHY NOT JOIN US FOR OPEN MIC (now at two locations)

Open Mic Sunday at the Bay School Community Arts Center - first Sunday each month.

Do you enjoy books on tape? Or a great short story? Perhaps an inspiring or humorous poem? If so, plan to join us each on the first Sunday of every month at 2 P.M. when regional writers will step up to the mike and read their original work. The Open Mic meets in Mathews Courthouse and is free and open to the public.

We encourage all writers in the area to participate or come and be entertained. Those interested in reading should come to the Bay School at 1:45 p.m. on the day of the event and sign up to be included on the program. Readers will be limited one of the following: prose up to 2,500 words; Poetry up to eight minutes presentation time. The Bay School will provide to presenters a table where they can sell their books. For questions, call Paul Stimson at 725-0707.

Open Mic Saturday at the Williamsburg main library - Second Saturday each month

Following the success of providing an Open Mike to the Mathews community, and the positive response we received during our 2007 Expos, we have taken steps to provide the same to the Williamsburg area. The Open Mike concept presents a forum whereby readers and listeners just drop in. This no-registration format gives the casual writer an opportunity to be heard, without making a commitment beforehand --something that beginning writers and first-time readers find comforting. We have a tentative agreement with the Williamsburg Library (near the downtown Colonial Williamsburg area) to meet on the second Saturday of each month, from 2:00-4:00 PM, starting on March 8, 2008. For more information, e-mail Ed von Gehren at vongehren@verizon.net or call (757) 220-9405.
