Chesapeake Style Magazine returns to Print: Look for it at locations throughout the Northern Neck, Middle Peninsula and Williamsburg areas.

Chesapeake Style, an award winning magazine created and managed by CBW member, Janet Fast, has served folks in the Chesapeake Bay Region since 1998, once distributing more than 100,000 copies of the magazine eleven months of the year.

Then came 9/11, the psycho-economic effects of which precipitated a sharp decline in advertising revenue, the life's blood of Style's print version. To preserve the Chesapeake Style brand name while continuing to serve the publication's core of loyal readers and writers, the decision was made to seek shelter from the economic storm by taking Style to the then rapidly expanding internet as an on-line only publication.

And weather the storm it did. With Advertising revenue once again flowing, augmented by the efforts of an expanded and dedicated staff, Style is not only back in print, but has a new look and a stronger community-centered focus. In the premiere May issue, readers will find new ideas and fresh writers, as well as faithful writers who have been with Style since the beginning. One of the best ideas to come with the new look are the magazine's Teen Style pages, where local high school students share their writings, art and photography.

"Bringing back Style has been an interesting and humbling experience. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that folks have kept back issues in their homes, in their guest rooms for visitors to read. Countless folks have shared this with me in these past few weeks. I always said it wasn't meant for "the bottom of the birdcage" but never thought people would keep it around for more than five years!" -- Janet Abbott Fast

Because so many CBW members have found an outlet for their work through this magazine, one could argue that it traditionally has served as the unofficial venue for CBW. Of course, the magazine's name and the fact that it is circulated throughout the region CBW serves might have something to do with that perception.

So what's next ?  Well, Look for this sign at locations you frequent. If you see the sign, pick up a copy and, as you review its content, think about creating a win-win writing-related relationship with Style for yourself. And keep in mind, the on-line version continues to be published as well.

If you don't see the sign, do yourself and all our writer-members a favor and ask the manager why? The more locations that elect to distribute Style, the bigger the venue of opportunity it becomes for contributing writers such as yourself.

And by all means, click here to send feedback/suggestions to Janet
