Experience
Sharon is a free-lance writer. She formerly wrote for the Sussex-Surry Dispatch
(2003-2005), where she produced three to five stories per week in
addition to serving as a copy editor. Later she contributed
occasional articles to the Daily Press. At that time
the Dispatch was a subsidiary of the Press.
Before moving to Williamsburg, she wrote free-lance articles for the
Madison Times (Wisconsin), a weekly community
newspaper, where she averaged three published stories per week
(1995-1999). At both the Madison Times and
Sussex-Surry Dispatch, Sharon provided photographs to
accompany her stories.
Other work during that period
included projects for the Virginia Eagles (Virginia
Aeronautical Historical Society), AutoPilot
(mid-Atlantic region), Mature Lifestyles (Dane County,
WI and surrounding area), Midwest Flyer Magazine,
Wisconsin Woman Magazine and other assignments including
brochures and flyers.
Sharon's writing and reporting skills were honed by more than three
years as copy editor for the Environmental and Natural Resources
Policy and Training (EPAT) project, coordinated by the University of
Wisconsin International Agricultural Program and sponsored by U.S.
Aid for International Development. From 1992 to 1994, their team
edited and published research papers on sustainable agriculture,
economic and environmental practices for developing country
policymakers. More than 70 developing countries benefited from this
effort. The project ended when USAID experienced severe budget cuts.
Current Projects
You can read Sharon’s current and archived blogs at
http://theenergywriter.com
where she indulges her funny bone and her more thoughtful side as
she ponders life, family, events, oddities in the news and anything
else that strikes her fancy.
In addition to the Chesapeake Bay
Writers, Sharon finds inspiration and encouragement from her cohorts
at Humor Writers (Erma Bombeck Writers Workshop), Southern Humorists
and National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
For the past few years Sharon has
been sporadically working on two books, a romance novel and a
memoir, with working titles of Lost and Found Love and
Single-Wing Butterfly. So far neither has met her standards of
great literature so they languish in the desk drawer awaiting that
spark of genius that will propel them to publication. She knows the
spark will strike when she is no longer worrying about the next step
and is quiet enough to hear the prompts.
Education
Sharon holds a BA in Professional Communication (1993, Alverno
College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin), is a Certified Reiki Master
Practitioner and Teacher, and is studying Transfigura-Regeneration.
She lives in Williamsburg, Virginia. |
