 RICHARD CORWIN

Corwin's creative achievements map like a meandering stream in an unconventional flood plain of personal consciousness. He was writer and managing editor for, Caribe News and Reviews, Art Director for Prout Films and Shamrock Film Studios in Orlando, Florida. Credits include, "The Story of Kissimmee," a promotional film for the City of Kissimmee and Disney World, Co-author of, "Through a Lighthouse Window," with folk singer and song writer, Glenn Yarbrough, and co-author of internet ventures with Gail "Delta" Collins who wrote lyrics for Eric Clapton and the '60's rock groups of Cream and Mountain. His writings appear in "In Good Company," a collection of short stories by Live Wire Press, and short stories for the El Ojo del Lago magazine in Chapala, Mexico.

Corwin's second book is entitled Caribbean Bones. It chronicles his adventures while living in the Caribbean for almost ten years during the 60’s and early 70’s. Highlights are tales of his involvement in; "not-for-profit treasure hunting, insurance fraud (sinking yachts for profit), contract assassinations in South America, sailing and diving adventures, smuggling drugs and gem stones, a few rock stars ("I fell for Mama Cass at Creques Alley"), local Obeah legends such as the Cow-foot woman and other tales of life on an island when life was genuinely good; simple in its lack of complexities and inhibitions.

Carribean Bones

The British and US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean was the frontier paradise of the 60’s and early 70’s where adventurers used the islands as a base of operations for nefarious activities in the Caribbean and South America. There were treasure hunters, counterfeiters, assassins, Black Panthers, rock stars, movie stars, wealthy industrialists, and lots of other folks looking for an escape from their boring ordinary mainland living. Others brought their yachts to join the large charter fleet in St. Thomas, stop to visit or continue on to other ports. The islands would enter into a frenzy of development in the early 70’s that would change forever their free, frontier paradise character. Native fishing schooners would disappear; high speed ferries replaced colorful native transportation, a mega yacht marina would be built on the bones of Yacht Haven Marina where most stories in this book had their beginning; where the people who made adventure their way of life inspired the short stories of Caribbean Bones. The ghosts of Yacht Haven, and its Marina, still haunt Dick but in a good way. Not a day passes that he doesn’t remember sharing a drink and laugh with Mama Cass; playing darts with “Mad Dog,” Fairchild on Virgin Gorda; liars’ poker with actor Bill Davis at Trader Dan’s on the waterfront or the “The Lovin’ Spoonful,” a stoned rock band neighbor at the marina. He went to the islands to find adventure and explore the wonders of freedom and found more than he had ever hoped for. _____________________________________________________________________________

Midnight Gates

Midnight Gates is a collection of short stories with unusual, surprising and thought provoking conclusions stimulated by odd news and social events, dreams, private or public philosophies, friends and strange thoughts that often drift into my own reflections of past and very personal events.

Some stories have been inspired by other writers who offer a challenge to complete an entertaining short story, to be read before writers groups each month, and later re-written for publication. Each story follows its own path without influence from the others and is different with respect to content and direction. Each has its own personality.
