This recently published letter from a listener says it all:

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

One morning in early January I was listening to the Gloucester radio station and they were interviewing a writer about his new book. When the writer said he was from Gwynn’s Island, I began to pay closer attention. My husband and I grew up in Mathews County, and he was born on Gwynn’s Island.

I quickly wrote down "Timekeeper" by John Atkinson and called a local bookstore—they did not have it. Neither did Gloucester library, but when I stressed that John Atkinson was local and I wanted to read his book, they graciously placed an order and called me when the book came in.

I read "Timekeeper" quickly, as it’s hard to put down. I look forward to a possible sequel as I want to know more about "Timekeeper." Read it and you will too!

In addition to your book, include any VERY newsworthy REVIEWS and/or ENDORSEMENTS of your work, and a BRIEF BIO PARAGRAPH, all on ONE-PAGE CHEAT SHEET.  This page is highly recommended if you want a great interview.  If you have a web page on the CBW website or a website of your own, you can add appropriate info from those sources for this purpose. Keep Key Interview talking points/Bio to a SINGLE page. Beyond that, it is not likely to be read in advance.

OPTIONAL: Call the station at 804-693-2105 on the Friday before your interview to confirm receipt of any materials you send to Neal in advance of the interview.

  1. ARRIVE AT THE STATION by 7:45 a.m.   Scroll down for Directions to the Radio Station.

IMPORTANT: Before the interview begins, please remind Neal to mention that CBW is a Chapter of the Virginia Writers Club serving writers from the Northern Neck south to Williamsburg, and please be sure our website address is mentioned at beginning and end of show. (www.chesapeakeBayWriters.org

  1. The INTERVIEW will begin at 8:05 a.m. and last from 10 – 25 minutes. For a great interview, elaborate when answering your questions.  Do NOT use one-word answers.  Relax.  Enjoy the interview, but if you are promoting any published work, be sure to have with you simple instructions as to where and how a listener can purchase a copy. Your website, CBW web page or bookstore (on-line or brick and mortar) will typically suffice.

  1. If you want a CD recording of the interview, request it before the interview begins. If CBW's webmaster decides to get up early to record your interview, he'll post it to the website and to your personal web page, if you have one, and you can download it from there. You may wish to e-mail Webmaster Dave in advance if you want a guarantee of this most charitable add-on member service (Your dues at work!)<g>.

If you have an emergency and cannot appear for the interview, call Mary Ann Carr as soon as possible so she can arrange for a replacement. This is imperative!  Her phone number:  (804) 725-9843.  Please leave a message.
