Feed Your Head

How easily my occupation is preempted by preoccupation, my brain’s workings occupied by the very best butter. Instead of writing, I’m gazing into space, thinking of ideas waiting in my pantry, ingredients for dishes I’m not inclined to make. I pursue old-time sci-fi and listen to creativity podcasts. The closest I come to writing is writing about writing. I try on metaphors and toss them aside, search for the word for “thinking about thinking”, follow my own notions’ labyrinth without Ariadne’s thread, and finally, when all else fails, I feed my head. Surely if it’s full enough, something will flow into my fingers and onto a page. Won’t it?
What stops you from writing? How do you get started again?
