It's 1781 in Yorktown, Virginia, and Abigail's world is caught between loyalty and rebellion, freedom and captivity. With the American Revolution nearing its dramatic end, Abigail finds herself at the heart of the conflict between the nations and within her family.
Her father remains loyal to the British crown, while her 15-year-old brother Jonathan has secretly joined the rebel army alongside Ben, an enslaved boy from their farm. As the war rages on, Abigail and her friend Cissy, Ben's brave and honest sister, share quiet moments that open Abigail's eyes to the cruel realities of slavery and the meaning of true freedom.
When letters begin to arrive from Jonathan, Abigail treasures each word, torn between pride in her brother's courage and fear for his safety. Through these letters and her experience on their Yorktown farm, Abigail begins to question what she's always been taught and to find her own voice in a divided world.
Letters from Yorktown is a powerful story of friendship, courage, and awakening, set during a time when every choice could change the course of a young nation's future.

A note from the author:
This story was a bedtime story I told my children when they were seven and ten-years old. That was twenty-three years ago but I'm finally getting it into print. I hope you enjoy it as much as my children did. it is meant for second or third grade but I think anyone will enjoy reading or listening to it.

The water cycle is taught in second and third classrooms across the United States. The Water Cycle with Olly and Carl is an excellent way to introduce it.
Olly the owl tries to sleep, but Carl, a young cricket afraid of the rain, is crying. Olly explains the water cycle to Carl using the scientific terms of evaporation, transpiration, condensation, and precipitation, but in a way that is fun.
When assured that Carl is no longer afraid, Olly flies to his tree to sleep. But then something else keeps Olly awake.
A glossary at the end of the book defines terms associated with the water cycle: evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, water vapor, hydrologic cycle, runoff, infiltration, and storage.

A book where you write the words!
Jazzy’s expressions are happy, sad, mad, thoughtful, irritated, and more. In this book, you can decide what Jazzy is thinking or feeling. A photo might feel happy for one person, but feel joyous or peaceful to another. That’s why the photographer, Sonja, gives you the opportunity to write what you think.
Parents and teachers can use this book with children to discuss emotions they are currently dealing with.
Children can empathize with Jazzy. “If Jazzy feels emotions, then then so can I.”
So, pick up your markers and have fun writing captions for each photo.
